Spark your brand back into growth

We help brand and business leaders turn around under-performing brands: diagnosing why performance has weakened, repositioning for where consumers and the market are going, and finding the single spark that will begin the turnaround.

Brand Reignition creates the blueprint and the business case to make a brand relevant, aspirational and investment-worthy again.

Mangrove POV

Equity isn't the problem, standing still is

Once-great brands are losing ground in markets that won't wait for them. The root cause is rarely a lack of heritage or equity. It's that the equity is no longer being actively managed, invested in, or connected to where the market is going.

The answer isn't an unrealistic list of interventions or a creative refresh on its own. It's a clear-eyed view of whether the brand is worth reinvesting in, a tightly defined audience to fuel the growth, and one catalyst that begins the movement. Then a business case that gets the organisation behind it.

Common challenges

Why good brands stall

1

Relevance is harder to hold

Markets shift, culture moves on and consumer expectations evolve. What once made a brand distinctive and compelling can gradually become less meaningful, often without the business noticing until growth begins to slow.

The challenge is to evolve without losing what made the brand valuable in the first place. Brands that fail to keep pace risk becoming familiar but increasingly easy to overlook, while those that chase every change risk losing their distinctiveness altogether.

2

Trust is harder to earn

Consumers have more choice, more information and greater visibility into how brands behave. Claims are easier to scrutinise, inconsistencies easier to expose and established reputation alone is no longer enough to guarantee credibility.

Strong brands need to earn belief through what they say, what they do and the experience they consistently deliver. When those things fall out of alignment, trust and preference becomes much harder to sustain.

3

Brand inertia sets in

Successful brands can become victims of their own familiarity. Over time, underinvestment, short-term decision making and incremental change can dilute the clarity and conviction that made the brand compelling in the first place.

The result is often a brand that is being maintained rather than actively built, stretched across too many priorities, lacking a clear point of view and increasingly reliant on existing recognition rather than creating new reasons to choose it.

Why now

Two shifts raising the stakes

Two shifts are raising the stakes for established, slowing brands:

Category growth is coming from insurgents

Insurgent brands accounted for 36% of FMCG market growth in 2025, despite holding less than 2% of total market share. Incumbents need to raise their game just to hold share, let alone grow.

Bain & Company

Businesses are shrinking to grow

Portfolios are being simplified and investment focused behind fewer, stronger brands. The brands that remain need to be primed for growth, and deprioritised brands, even those slated for divestment, can still offer bonus growth.

Our approach

How we help

Brand Reignition is a focused, time-bound engagement that makes the case for (re)investment to reignite or rebrand a tired, established brand in around six weeks from kick-off to recommendations.

No long process and no unrealistic list of interventions. You come away with a clear view of whether the brand is worth reinvesting in, the audience that will fuel its growth, the one spark that will begin the turnaround, and a business case the organisation can back.

Why actions always trump words and numbers

Amazon hit their 2030 renewable energy target seven years early. Impressive – or was the target simply too low? And does any of it matter if consumers can’t follow the story? When it comes to sustainability, actions will always speak louder than words and numbers.

Good growth shouldn’t cost the earth

As leading car manufacturers drop entry-level models to hit EV targets, it raises a bigger question for every business: what does good growth actually look like? Profit, margin, unit sales and sustainability goals cannot always all be satisfied at once.

There ain’t no proof like social proof

Three times this week someone has thrust their solar panel app in my face. Annoying? Yes. But it’s also a perfect real-world example of social proof in action – and a timely reminder of the irrational tools marketeers should be using to accelerate behaviour change.

“I feel the need, the need for speed”

This week marks the 10th anniversary of Fashion Revolution. After a decade of campaigning for greater transparency, barely half of the 250 largest fashion brands disclose their primary suppliers. The clock is ticking, consumers are watching, and the industry cannot afford another 10 years of inaction.

Beware the silos

The world of sustainability is blurry, connected and complex – but most companies tackling it are not. Nick Pye examines why rigid silo structures are the enemy of effective sustainability strategy, and why connecting the dots between E and S is where the real opportunity lies.
