Elite sports teams never start with a values workshop, they start with what they are trying to win, then work backwards to the behaviours each player needs, every week, to win it. The behaviours follow the goal.
Most businesses work in the opposite order. They write the values first and hope the behaviours follow. They rarely do, because a value without a behaviour is a sentiment, and people cannot act on a sentiment. "Ownership" has to become a short list of things a person actually does: delivering without being chased, raising problems early, holding a standard when nobody is watching. Only once a behaviour is specific enough to see can it be recognised, measured and coached.
McKinsey's research on alignment backs this up starkly. Alignment is not a soft outcome, it is a structural precondition for growth that compounds or fails to compound over years, not quarters.
