The Framework

Stretchonomics

Our proprietary framework for stretching growth, built on 7 drivers that move individuals, teams and businesses into the Stretch Zone.

Stretchonomics the Book

Where it all began

In 2017 we wrote a book on success and performance which produced our Stretchonomics framework. Written by Mangrove founders Nick Pye and Justin Wright, it explores the art and science of what it takes for individuals, teams and organisations to perform at their very best.

This framework underpins all of our thinking, and everything we do with our clients.

The Stretch Zone

Perform at your best

A business or team needs to be in the Stretch Zone to perform at its best. This requires an alignment of ambition and commitment, pushing beyond the Comfort Zone without tipping into unmet expectations or atrophy.

Mangrove's role is to diagnose where a business sits and create the conditions to move, and stay, in the Stretch Zone.

Requires a connected effort - it is never due to a single thing

Diagnosing where to focus to unlock stretching growth

Our research and experience shows that a combination of 7 factors are responsible for getting individuals, teams or businesses into the Stretch Zone.

The 7 drivers of STRETCH provide a framework for identifying strengths to leverage and challenges to address.

  • S
Scope Exploring & defining the growth challenge
  • T
Target Setting & measuring appropriate goals
  • R
Resource Availability of the necessary resources to achieve goals
  • E
Execution Original thinking with agile & rigorous action
  • T
Techniques Developing the necessary skills & processes
  • C
Courage Fortitude & ability to deal with discomfort & risk
  • H
Hunger Motivation to achieve the stated targets

Why actions always trump words and numbers

Amazon hit their 2030 renewable energy target seven years early. Impressive – or was the target simply too low? And does any of it matter if consumers can’t follow the story? When it comes to sustainability, actions will always speak louder than words and numbers.

Good growth shouldn’t cost the earth

As leading car manufacturers drop entry-level models to hit EV targets, it raises a bigger question for every business: what does good growth actually look like? Profit, margin, unit sales and sustainability goals cannot always all be satisfied at once.

There ain’t no proof like social proof

Three times this week someone has thrust their solar panel app in my face. Annoying? Yes. But it’s also a perfect real-world example of social proof in action – and a timely reminder of the irrational tools marketeers should be using to accelerate behaviour change.

“I feel the need, the need for speed”

This week marks the 10th anniversary of Fashion Revolution. After a decade of campaigning for greater transparency, barely half of the 250 largest fashion brands disclose their primary suppliers. The clock is ticking, consumers are watching, and the industry cannot afford another 10 years of inaction.

Beware the silos

The world of sustainability is blurry, connected and complex – but most companies tackling it are not. Nick Pye examines why rigid silo structures are the enemy of effective sustainability strategy, and why connecting the dots between E and S is where the real opportunity lies.
